Animation Tips

Character design is significant to the overall animation. There are many great books on the topic of character design and development, and luckily for you I have read most of them. I suggest Stan Lee’s How to Draw Comics and Sterling Publishing’s Art of Drawing Manga. Both books are filled with illustrations and useful drawing tips and provide instructions for how to draw characters and position them based on their role in the storyline.

It is important to distinguish a protagonist and antagonist in your animation, and there are a variety of techniques to accomplish this. An obvious method is to make the hero bright and the villain dark; however, this is not the case in the beloved Batman series. In this series, Batman is the protagonist, yet he is very dark. I think most people would agree the Bruce Wayne/Batman figure is so fully developed that it is clear Batman is the hero despite his dark portrayal. If you are creating animation that has a storyline that relies heavily on characters, take the time to develop the characters properly.

If you decide to animate text or shapes, it is important to have a rhythmic soundtrack. In this case, it would be a good time investment to sync the sound because doing so makes it more enjoyable for your audience. You should always consider your audience when creating animation:  make sure your animation entertains, informs, and captures your target audience’s interest.

Use your imagination and create an animation that reflects your personality and creativity. Be inspired by the world around you, and always remember to “think outside the word” and know that anything is possible. “Think Outside the Word” is the title of my blog, and it is a way of life.

A creative career can be a challenge to navigate. However, with proper planning, success is achievable. It is vital to avoid thinking small. An open mind, an active imagination, and creative thinking are all necessary for a fulfilling, creative career journey. It is important to understand oneself completely before determining a career path. A creative professional should set aside time to assess her or his learning style and communication style. It is vital to explore and learn about a number of careers and professional industries, because this process broadens the scope of career possibilities.
It is advisable to take a quick self-assessment test to establish one's learning style and communication style, and the results should be interpreted and analyzed. These tests provide insight that will lead to professional clarity. The information gathered from testing will aid in developing a learning plan that takes advantage of an individual's learning strengths and compensates for weaknesses. Creative career professionals will also benefit from making the most of their communication style and taking actions to become more effective communicators. A strong ability to communicate is a powerful skill that can rapidly advance a person's career. Those who communicate ideas clearly and who effectively convey their skills and talents to decision makers will enjoy many years of career success.

Keeping an open mind is easy, and it is vital to achieving goals. If a person dreams about creating children's cartoons for a living and applies for careers only in that specific field, he or she may miss the opportunity to be a children's book illustrator. It is possible to realize your dreams by adjusting goals to creatively overcome obstacles along the path. Always seek out and investigate many types of careers. The most rewarding and satisfying career can be hidden in a search engine, or in and industry-specific publication. The key to finding new and exciting careers is research and networking.

It is vital to constantly grow professionally, to sharpen creative skills, and to be aware of current industry trends. It is important to be open to learning a new idea or a new concept on a daily basis. It has been said many times that knowledge is power, and that is because this is a valid truth. The most talented expert in any given field will be valued and will be sought after by colleagues, professional leaders, and employers. As long as there is life, there is a possibility to learn and grow.

Networking is an enjoyable method of growing professionally. There are many ways to network, and one way to begin is to start a file of valuable professional contacts. Create an all-inclusive networking strategy that includes social media, industry events, and participation in professional associations. When it comes to networking, always be willing to try something new; it is a good idea to step outside the usual comfort zone and meet people from outside the usual circle of friends and colleagues. It is time to expand a limiting professional circle and turn it into one with endless opportunities and possibilities.

An open mind allows innovative ideas to flow freely, which grows the imagination and leads to creative thinking. A creative professional's greatest strength is the ability to think creatively. If you always "think outside the word," this saying can become a way of life. To think outside the word means to use one imagination actively, to creatively problem solve, and to believe that failure is never an option.

Keep Your Eyes Open – How to Find Inspiration

Inspiration is everywhere if you just look around. The key to unlocking your imagination and discovering new and exciting sights is being hyper-aware of your surroundings and being prepared to capture the moment. This is easy to do as long as you employ the right strategy and have the proper tools. Inspiration leads to new ideas and product innovation.

Great news! You do not need to be a detective or have as master’s degree in research to discover a person, place, or event that will forever transform the way you see life and add value to your professional experience. You only need a keen eye. If you travel while on business, be aware of those distractions that may appear as an annoyance because your next great idea may be hidden there. Most of the technology we use is based on a solution to a common, everyday problem. Think of the sleek design of a tablet as opposed to a notebook computer. It can be a bit annoying to carry a laptop bag along with a carryon through the airport. Most people will agree. Someone decided not to be annoyed and instead came up with lighter, sleeker way to conduct urgent business while waiting on the flight and people responded overwhelmingly. I see tablets everywhere, don’t you?

Inspiration is an essential part of the formula to the creative professional. If you are in any creative field such as art, entertainment, marketing, or advertising, you should know every single moment counts and your next great video or ad campaign idea could happen spontaneously while hailing a cab or walking through the park. While I was in Berlin for an international business trip, I had a bit of free time and decided to explore the city. My exploration was rewarding because I saw extremely talented street performers showcasing a range of talents; I was inspired and prepared. I had my ultra-lightweight Canon Power-Shot and took video footage, which I later uploaded to my YouTube channel.

The video features a fire thrower who was very skillful. At first glance, I knew I must capture this moment and share it with the world because it would inspire others. He had so much passion in his performance he drew a large audience to watch him defy gravity as he tossed the flame-lit sticks into the air.  His performance sparks a thought about the founder of Cirque du Soleil, a fire breather and former street performer named Guy Laliberte. Guy Laliberte is more than a success story; he is an inspiration to creative professionals everywhere. He is the example of what a brilliant mind and an active imagination can accomplish. Cirque du Soliel is a global success and an attraction that is sought out by millions.
Whether you are on vacation, traveling on business, or going through the rigors of your everyday life, look for inspirations because the payoff will be substantial. You have great ideas; you only need to explore the world that surrounds you to unleash your meaningful contribution to humanity. Go out there and be inspired. Remember to “think outside the word.”

Networking for the Creative Professional Part 1

Introduction

Networking is the topic of many professional discussions and business courses because it is vital to success. Networking should be a part of the art curriculum. Art college teaches many necessary skills to strengthen our natural creative ability. We take courses that broaden our social and cultural perspectives and gain knowledge of the masters that came before us. Going to college to earn an art degree is greatly beneficial; however, many artists struggle to find relevant careers that pay enough to support their ideal lifestyles. In this article, I provide the information needed to grow and maintain a network that is beneficial for all parties involved.

The Importance of Networking
Have you ever been in class or at event and heard someone say "I have an uncle..." or, "My father's friend will give me a job at his company"? Chances are you have heard the previous phrase in one form or another. You have likely heard, "It is not what you know, it is who you know." That statement is half-true: it is a combination of both.
Who you know and what you know are equally important. You must be knowledgeable and skilled in your field and make yourself valuable. Once you develop your skillset and become the best at what you do, it is vital the professionals in the position to hire you learn that you are the best. How will they know you exist? You guessed it: networking.
The more people that know your capabilities, your accomplishments, and ambition, the more successful you will be. If you are thinking, "It's not fair! Isn't it enough I am an expert and no one can create the art I can?" I challenge you to think differently. If you invent a jet pack that allows people to fly with ease, would you expect a big payday if you only flew it in your garage? You likely would not, because if no one knows your value, they will not be able to support you and promote you to their colleagues and friends. Who knows, maybe the uncle of the young man I mentioned earlier is a gallery owner and has two positions to fill. Networking is important and anyone you meet can lead to a significant connection.

What is Professional Networking?
Professional networking has been defined in many ways. It is best summed up as a group of professional people who meet up socially to make vital connections and discover business opportunities. There are many ways to network. There are professional organizations you can join based on your interest or industry. There are a large variety of social media sites that are easy to use and develop an ongoing network of valuable connections; among them are LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. Keep in mind that any social gathering with like-minded professionals is a networking opportunity. In addition to all the opportunities stated above, artists should also consider art galleries, art openings, art shows, and the like as networking opportunities. With the proper strategy, networking in its many forms can be easy and enjoyable. Invest the time necessary to create, develop, and grow your professional network and you will reap great rewards.

ROI - A Guide for Artists and Creative Professionals

Starving artists, starve no more! You read correctly: It is no longer necessary for artists to starve, because with the proper plan and investment in place, you will be well on your way to a lucrative career and notoriety. You deserve it, don't you? Well, I think you do. Artists are among the greatest innovative thinkers in history (think Michelangelo Buonarroti, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Albrecht Durer), and today's artists continue to be among the great innovative thinkers (think Stan Lee, Tim Burton, and Franz Fischnaller).

If artists have done it in the past, you can do it now, and you can also enjoy the great success that today's highly accomplished artists enjoy. You can achieve their success by learning and implementing their marketing strategy. They discovered how to best make a name for themselves as leaders in their industries. It is not by chance that we consider them masters of their craft and celebrate their innovation; it is by design. We are able to see the leaders in the creative fields as geniuses, because they are highly visible in the media, publications, and the Internet. You should make yourself visible. Yes, it is possible to be creative and "think outside the word." When you "think outside the word," you use your imagination to accomplish what was once thought impossible.
The widely accessible Internet is constantly expanding to even the remotest areas. The Internet and the popularity of social media are why all artists must develop an e-marketing strategy. Time and money invested in a smart, high quality e-marketing strategy will yield an immeasurable return on investment (ROI). ROI is term you have heard many times in the past. You should include ROI in your professional plan to measure the success of your marketing strategy, because if you do not see high ROI in any professional activity, you need to revise your approach. Be creative, and use what most artists and creative professionals have in common; that is, a highly developed imagination. Get your artwork seen by art critics, gallery owners, art museum curators, etc. You want to make sure that your masterpieces are seen by those who are in a position to positively affect your career. How is this accomplished? You must be strategic and do your research. A well-researched and strategically planned e-strategy will earn you the ROI you seek.

Artists go out there to the World Wide Web and share their innovative thinking with world. Use PR to get your name and brand out to those who can greatly impact your career. Remember to create a strategic e-marketing plan that will yield you a high ROI. Always measure all advertising and promotional activities for effectiveness. Continue the activities that work, and eliminate those that do not. Do your research, know your field of interest, and watch industry trends. Stay current and relevant, because you will have an advantage over those who do not. Social media is a great way to network, gain support, and develop a following for your artwork. You are the key to your successful art career. Do what it takes to have a lucrative art career, and do it now! Always remember to "think outside the word."

Rise Above the Sea of Name

Create with Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk Maya

Now more than in the past, we have many ways to communicate and make vital connections. Social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter provide access to people who were once nearly impossible to reach. However, the aforementioned
resources on hand must be navigated strategically. Often, Twitters and the constant flow of information into our smart devices, tablets, and computers can feel like information overload. We should use social media wisely.

Think Outside the Word

What does it mean to "think outside the word"? It means everything creative and anything imaginable. I find that people who choose to live the philosophy of "think outside the word" are usually happier and more successful. To follow this philosophy means to seek out an understanding of how our brains function. In gaining a greater understanding of the complexity of the human brain, we discover endless opportunities to succeed and problem-solve. I always encourage everyone to read books and attend classes focusing on the conscious and subconscious. It has been my experience that those who choose to strategically feed information into their minds have a distinct advantage over those who do not.

It is unimaginable that the education system does not provide a substantial amount of education on how to appropriately communicate with the subconscious during children's developmental stages. The subconscious is a positive tool for success-a birthright often wasted. If people were provided with the knowledge of how to properly use their subconscious minds at an early age, how much further would mankind's evolution be now? We all have an inherited imagination; if properly nurtured and developed, the once-believed impossible becomes possible. We look to the past and thank the great minds who refused to allow impossibilities to hinder their creativity. Those great minds brought us fire, the wheel, automobile, airplane, the Internet, and many more things we enjoy today that were once thought impossible in the past.

The moment you decide to invest time and energy in developing your subconscious, success seems easier to obtain. You will likely feel healthier and happier. You will feel as if awakened from a conscious dream. It is an amazing feeling of empowerment because you are now in complete control of your life. You are the architect of your future happiness. A good resource is Swallow the Happy Pill by Craig Beck. It is a great starting point for learning how to effectively navigate the conscious and subconscious mind.
Use your imagination often and constantly, and you will become a master of problem-solving. It has been said many times that practice makes perfect. I am sure we can all agree that, at the very least, practice makes us better at everything and anything we try. The aforementioned holds true for our minds: The more we tap into our subconscious, the better we become at utilizing our inherent imagination. These are the principles on which the "think outside the word" concept was founded.

As the popular song by The Lovin' Spoonful asks, "Do you believe in magic?" I know I do, and that is why I always consciously choose to "think outside the word." It is our choices that determine our lives. Remember-outside forces are defenseless against our inside forces in determining the outcome in our lives. The next time something seems impossible, remember that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb with considerably less technology than we have today. When you have an excruciating, daunting task before you, consider Michelangelo Buonarroti painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling, which is still adored by the masses. The unimaginable is yours, the impossible is possible, the unreachable is within your grasp if you choose to do what success stories that came before you did: "Think outside the word."

You Don't Have To Be Unbreakable To Launch A Comic Book

As the title states, you don't have to be unbreakable to launch a comic book, you only have to be unstoppable. The comic book industry is competitive with many talented, creative professionals struggling for the opportunity to be discovered. To add to the challenge, there are comic book super powers like Marvel and DC that continuously publish the classics that most us still love and enjoy. However, the true lifeblood of the comic book industry are fresh ideas and innovation. While people enjoy the classics, they also always appreciate something new and excited.

What does it mean to be unstoppable? It means to be resilient in the face of defeat, to be determined to see your idea through to success. To be unstoppable is to take a new approach when the first three attempts don't work out. You must be creative and use your imagination to "think outside the word." The phrase "think outside the word," is a way of life; if you choose to tap into your imagination, your possibilities of success become limitless. "Think outside the word," and you will no longer see any of your unfulfilled efforts as failures. All attempts at success must be labeled as learning opportunities because you learn what works or does not work. Always remember: every "no" leads you closer to "yes."

The story of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) is an inspirational one. Seuss is a well-respected writer of children books and a positive example of resilience and the rewards to be reaped. Dr. Seuss was turned down twenty-nine times by publishing companies before he published his first book. What a tragedy it would have been if he gave up at after the first try. I cannot imagine a world without "Green eggs and ham," can you? The leaders in the creative industries likely all faced rejection in some form, and the reason they are accomplished is due to their determination to achieve their goals. You must channel your inner determination and find creative ways to launch your comic book idea.
I was fortunate enough to experience Comic-Con 2012 in Chicago with VIP access. It was a great learning experience. I was able to see icons of the industry up close, like Stan Lee, and even local comic-book artists who were successfully selling their books. The one thing they all had in common, no matter their level of success, was a positive attitude. No matter what challenges or issues you are confronted with as you go about pursuing a career in comic books, remember to stay optimistic-it is key to your success.

It is a great idea to seek out help and support on areas you may be weak in, but you should never let yourself be defeated by your weakness. There are many professionals that offer services to enhance your talents and creativity. You are not a marketing expert, but you are simply a search engine away from finding a professional service that can help you. Need to find a publisher, a writer, an editor, or an illustrator? Search engines make research fast and efficient. I am sure you've heard the expression "time is money"-that statement is true. It is wiser to pay someone to fulfill the task that you are not strong in rather than to waste time doing the same things over and over until you figure it out. You may be surprised to see how much time you save by purchasing services that complement your skill set and push you closer to your goals.

You must know your strengths and exploit them to the fullest extent. My strengths include my active imagination, optimistic attitude, and my marketing aptitude. What are your strengths? Write them down and decide how you can use them to get your comic books in the hands of readers all over the globe. After you complete this list, create another list of the areas you need to seek outside help for so you can achieve your goals more efficiently. When failure is no longer a part of your vocabulary, success is your only option.

Remember to set yourself apart from the competition by working more efficiently than others and by using your strengths as an advantage. It is a smart idea to seek out assistance in the areas in which you are not as strong. Attend industry events such as Comic-Con and observe the behavior of the successful professionals in the comic industry and learn from them. Remember that statistics is on your side and the more "no's" you hear the closer you are to a "yes." Just imagine how much more pleasurable it will be to hear that resounding "yes" amongst the many "no's" of the past. Your imagination is your magic-use it to creatively problem solve and to work beyond barriers. Most importantly, always "think outside the word."

You should leave your thoughts and comments below. Thank you:)

A Sneak Peak

Hand Drawn and edited in Adobe Photoshop

I created this blog to raise awareness on the book I will publish later this year entitled “Think Outside the Word.” Please read and enjoy the small snippet from my book.

Think Outside the Word is more than a book title; it is a way of life for many prominent creative professionals. You can likely visual an instance in which you thought outside the word, because it is as simple as engaging in your imagination. Your investment in this visual expedition full of imagery and exclusive industry content is evidence of your desire to develop and exploit the power of your brain through exercising the inherent creativity you were born with. Often, the transition from child to adult leads to lost creativity, frightening, though true. Consider the imagination as you would think of your most treasured limb. If you were to break this limb, you would wear a cast for months, and once it was removed, the healed limb would be weak and stiff because of months of inactivity. There is a bright side, though. After physical therapy, the beloved limb will function close to 100%. The preceding process holds true for the imagination. A prevalent number of successful people in various industries and diverse roles achieved their goal by harnessing their creativity and becoming known as the person that people rely on for winning ideas. No matter your profession, background, or experience, this book will add value to your life.

You should submit your questions or comments and follow this blog for updates. Thanks!

Study Abroad in Prague, Czech Republic

Prague
Image created with Adobe Photoshop and Maya

Old Town

Next, we would visit Prague. Prague is a beautiful city with cobblestone streets. I learned so much about Czech culture and business practices during this visit. We dropped our things off in our rooms and had lunch. Then, we visited our first business, the Czech National Bank. The speaker provided a wealth of knowledge about the financial structure of the Czech Republic.
Czech National Bank Entrance

Our second visit would be to a newspaper, MF Dnes. Our speaker was very open and

informed about the state of the newspaper industry in Prague. He answered questions

before giving us a tour of the building. It was good to visit a media business.

MF Dnes

Czech culture is rich and full of defining moments; our coordinator was extremely knowledgeable about Czech history. We enjoyed a guided tour of Prague’s old town, and the architecture was beautiful. We saw the astronomical clock in the old town square, which is an event that many people huddle around to see.

We visited the Terezin concentration camps, which was a life altering experience. It was a glimpse into a tragic part of humanities’ history, but I know that there is value in learning about all aspects of a country’s history in our global economy.

We had one last class and a going away dinner; it was an enjoyable night. We were able to relax and reflect on our dynamic educational experience. The next day, we flew back home to our respective cities.

My overall impression of the trip was positive. We had two professionally accomplished professors teaching our course. The entire group seemed to benefit greatly from the experience. I am glad to have been a part of the first Keller students to study abroad. I definitely grew professionally and personally.
Edited With Adobe Premiere:)

Thanks for Viewing! As always I love your comments and question:)
